This valuable resource, "A Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames and Places", by Charles Wareing Bardsley could prove to be very helpful in researching more than one branch of your family history. Flip or scroll through the pages of names, which are sorted alphabetically. Check for multiple surnames from your family tree (including spelling variations), and if your family came from the United Kingdom or Wales, you're sure to find at least one match.
Note: Be sure to read the Introduction, which starts with a very helpful list of Abbreviations. These are essential in order to understand the information provided under the surname(s). I also included the list of abbreviations in the image below for quick reference, so you don't have to keep flipping to it in the book. This will help you decipher the valuable clues as you analyze the information.
