John Seymour was born on June 12, 1666, in Hartford, Connecticut, where he was a large land holder. He married Elizabeth Webster in 1693. He "lived southwesterly from the State House, on the south road to Farmington, just west of Rocky Hill. Here his "Mansion House was located..." In 1712, he and his wife were admitted to the South Church. He held various civic positions, from Surveyor of Highways, and inspector of the forests (with regards to woodcutting/forestry). He was chosen as Selectman on Dec. 11, 1729. He was involved with the founding of Litchfield. Many more of his works are detailed in Jacobus' book.
John died on May 17, 1748. He was 81 years old and was laid to rest in the Ancient Burying Ground (First Church) in Hartford. His headstone reads: “Here Lies Interred the Body of Mr. John Seymor Who Died May the 17th A:D 1748 Aged 84 Years”.
