Biography
Oscar Mayo was born on January 25, 1851, in Pennsylvania. He was the son of Raymond H. Mayo and Hannah S. Underhill. An industrious man who was a Stone Maison and dairy farmer. He was counted twice on the 1870 census, with his age given as 17 in both records. He was listed in his parents’ home in Terry, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, with two younger brothers and a younger sister, and he was listed in the home of Simpson Underhill in Dimock, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, probably a relative of his mother. He married Lycenia Strong, who he outlived by ten years after raising four daughters and one son. Lycenia died in 1927 and Oscar died at the age of 86 on September 9, 1937.
Note: PA Death Index gives his age at death as 66. This is a transcription error, as confirmed by his actual death certificate.
