Biography

William Henry Dickinson was born on the 29th of April, 1899, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When he was six years old, his family moved to Newark, New Jersey, and when he was 14, his beloved mother passed away. He attended Bethel Bible Institute in Newark, where he was ordained as a minister for the Assemblies of God. He married Delaphina Decker (better known as Mary), on the 8th of October, 1925, in Newark. She was a daughter of Charles Gilbert Decker and Lydia (Mayo) Decker, and was also a licensed minister. He and Mary established and pastored many churches in the tri-state area including Assembly of God churches in Oakland, PA, Moravia, NY, Lansingville, NY, Ludlowville, NY, Glens Falls, NY, Asbury Park, NJ, Bethpage, NY, Fredonia, NY, Carthage, NY, Middletown, NY, Woodburne, NY, and Bangor, PA.

 

William Henry Dickinson died from cardiopulmonary arrest caused by hardening of the arteries, in the Lake Seminole Hospital in Seminole, Pinellas County, Florida, on the 9th of December, 1978, after a ten day hospital stay. He was 79 years, 7 months and 10 days old. William is buried in West Hill Cemetery in Sherburne, Chenango County, New York.  His wife, Mary, died almost four years later, on the 6th of February, 1982. William and Mary had the following children: William ("Ben"), James, Elizabeth ("Betty"), Margaret, Robert, Ruth, and Jonathan Dickinson.
