History in Art

A young soldier returns home from the war in this Norman Rockwell painting. Rockwell created this for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post for May 26, 1945. Also called "Homecoming G.I.", the models were members of the Edgerton family, John Edgerton being the returning soldier. This painting was selected by the U.S. Treasury Dept. for their posters to promote their final war bond drive.
