Next, go to the next census page. ​Enter the quantities from the Slaves and Free Colored Persons, sections. The layout of the census page may vary. Enter all the details you can!

The blank 1840 census form provided by archives.gov does not include this section (below) regarding employment and military service, however there are some 1840 census records which recorded this valuable information. This section may appear between the Slaves Section and the Free Colored Persons section on the backside of the main census page. The columns are Mining, Agriculture, Commerce, Manufacturing, Navigator of Oceans, Navigator of canals, lakes and rivers, professionals and engineers. There may be a pensioner's name followed by a number. Enter them here for a summary!
