The town of Ridgefield was incorporated in October, 1709. The township was purchased from the Native Americans by a company of twenty-nine individuals from Norwalk and Milford in 1707-8. The First Congregational Church was organized in 1712 at Ridgefield Center and the Second Congregational Church was organized January 18, 1769, at Ridgebury.
