The Town of Onondaga was formed from parts of Marcellus, Manlius and Pompey around 1794 and was incorporated in 1798. It was originally a village occupied by the Onondaga people since the 17th century and was the location of the capital of the Iroquois League. The land was ceded to the Americans after the Revolutionary War.
