The U.S. Federal Census for 1890 was destroyed by fire, but the Census of Veterans survives, containing “Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, and Widows, Etc.”. Josiah Reese was listed on that census in Davidson, Sullivan County (Post office address North Mountain) as follows:
