Biography

Harry Dickinson was born on June 6, 1863, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of John Dickinson and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Dickinson. The family came to America abt. 1880, traveling 3,691 miles to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was naturalized on the 20th of April, 1889, at Pittsburgh. Later that year, on the 17th of November, he married Annie Robinson, daughter of George Robinson and Emma (Griffith) Robinson. They were married at Camden, New Jersey, but lived in Pittsburgh until 1905, when they moved to Newark, New Jersey. There, Harry worked for Heller Bros. in their steel manufactory. His wife, Annie, died young at the age of 42, on the 1st of May, 1913, and in 1916, his daughter, Lucy, died as well. Annie was buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Newark. Harry died at the age of 72, on the 7th of December, 1935, in Newark, New Jersey. He is buried in Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown, Warren County, New Jersey. A headstone for Annie was placed near his, although her body rests in Newark. Harry and Annie had eight known children, six of whom lived long and prosperous lives and two who died in childhood.
