Biography

Benoni Gardiner was born abt. 1645 and married a woman by the name of Mary sometime before 1671, the year he took the oath of allegiance. In 1727, he was a "sojourner at Portsmouth", (Rhode Island) and was aged "ninety and upward" at the time. He and 41 other settlers in Narragansett signed a petition to the King, requesting he put an end to the political divisions among the people. Mary died in January or November 16, 1729, at the home of her daughter, Mr. Job Sherman, in Portsmouth, at the age of 84. Benoni died in 1731, about age 86.
