Biography

Samuel Abbe was born in Massachusetts abt. 1646 and died in Windham, Massachusetts, on March 8, 1698. He married Mary Knowlton in Wenham, Essex, Massachusetts, on Oct. 12, 1672. Samuel was a son of John Abbe who came to America in 1635, and settled in Salem, Massachusetts. "Samuel was b. in Salem in 1650, lived in Wenham, was made freeman there Oct. 3, 1680, removed to Salem Village (now Danvers) in 1682, where most of their children were born. They removed to Windham Centre, Conn., in 1697, where he purchased a half allotment, 500 acres of land and half a house all for £22-10-0. He was admitted an inhabitant of Windham Dec. 21, 1697, and died a few months after settling there, in March, 1698. His widow married Abraham Mitchell, who was admitted an inhabitant of Winham in 1700." (Errata of Stocking's History).

  4. Elizabeth Abbe, born 1680, married William Slater.
  5. Ebenezer Abbe, born 1683, married Mary Allen.
  6. Merce Abbe, born 1685, married Jonathan Ormsby.
  7. Sarah Abbe, born 1686, married John Fowler.
  8. Hepzibah Abbe, born 1688, married Samuel Palmer.
  9. Abigail Abbe, born 1680, married Jospeh Ormsby.
  10. John Abbe, born 1692, died 1790.
  11. Benjamin Abbe, born 1694, married Mary Tryon.
  12. Jonathan Abbe, born 1696, died 1760.
