Formed from part of Aurelius in 1793 and was originally called Hardenburgh's Corners. It was renamed in 1805. The Village of Auburn was incorporated in 1815 and the City of Auburn was established in 1848. Early churches in Auburn were the First Presbyterian Church (c1801), First Universalist Society (c1833), and the Church of the Holy Family (c1840).
