Nathan Leonard (1743-1813), born in Hardwick, Worcester County, Mass., on Sept. 25, 1743, was a descendant of Solomon Leonard of Bridgewater. He was a son of Ensign Ezra and Olive Leonard. He lived in Vermont from 1778 until abt. 1796 when he purchased 3,000 acres of timber land in Sennett (now Marcellus), and 500 acres of Lot 43 in Aurelius (now Brutus). He married Amittai (or Annette) Cutler of Lexington, Massachusetts, on Nov. 25, 1766 (or Nov. 26). She was born on July 15, 1748 and died on Oct. 26, 1840. Together they had at least ten children.
"Capt. Leonard served as a minute man at the Lexington Alarm and commanded a Co. 1778 in Nathaniel Wade's Regt. of Worcester, Mass." [Revolutionary War Soldiers of Cayuga County, p. 50-51, available at FamilySearch]. He went to Skaneateles in Feb. 1797.

Note: In 1810 the town of Mentz included Ira, Throop and Montezuma until 1820-1860. Mentz had only just been formed from Aurelius in 1802. Also, Brutus was formed from Aurelius and Locke was formed from Genoa, all only eight years prior, in 1802.
