Biography
Charles Russell Leonard was said to have been born on the 25th of November, 1830, in Union Springs, Cayuga County, New York. He was the son of Russel and Sophronia Leonard. His father went missing in 1833, when Charles was under three years old. He married Mary Polly Brown before 1854. She was the daughter of Eugene Edwin Brown and Lydia King. Charles and Mary had several children including: Joseph, Susan, Louise Jane, Frances Jennie, Sarah, Lewis, Arthur, Lydia and Irving. Charles died on the 23rd of November, 1908, at his home in Groton, Tompkins County, New York. His funeral took place two days later and was announced in the Groton Journal. He is buried in Groton Rural Cemetery in Lot 62, Section N.
