Biography

John Clark Harvey, also known as "Clark Harvey", was the son of Newman Harvey and his wife, Lucy. He was born bet. 1822 and 1824 in Lapeer, Cortland County, New York. He had an older brother named Dennis, and two older sisters, Julia and Diana. Julia died young, at the age of 21. Diana married Almeron Talbot and in 1850 “Clark” was living in their home in Lapeer. In 1860, at the age of 26, he was living with his father. He married Betsy A. Stowell, daughter of Alpheus Stowell and Julia Brown, between 1870 and 1875. He died on Dec. 30, 1898, in Lapeer. His resting place has yet to be determined.

Note: John Clark Harvey went by the name “Clark”, as did his son, Lewis Clark Harvey, making it difficult to differentiate between the two in records. Furthermore, Lewis Clark Harvey named his son John Harvey, causing confusion with our John Clark Harvey. (Lewis’ son was born bet. 1896-1897 and died in 1941. He is buried in Virgil Rural Cemetery.)
