Plymouth was formerly part of Waterbury, which was settled in 1673/74 as Mattatuck, but incorporated in 1686 as Waterbury. The land, called Northbury, was used as Waterbury's burial grounds. A home dating back to 1690 or 1700 tells us settlement was made before then. The town of Plymouth was incorporated in 1795. Communities within Plymouth include: Allentown, East Plymouth, Greystone, Hancock, Pequabuck, Plymouth Center, Tolles, Town Hill, and Terryville.
