Onondaga County was formed from part of Herkimer County in 1794. The County Seat is Syracuse. The Six Nations were founded at Onondaga abt. 1550 A.D..

The Town of Pompey was formed in 1789 and became part of Onondaga County upon the county's formation in 1794. Fabius, Tully, Preble, Scott, Cuyler, Spafford, Otisco, Lafayette, Onondaga, and Truxton were all formed from parts of Pompey. Pompey Center is a hamlet in Pompey. Pompey's village called Jonesville was the site of the French Mission.
