Transcribed as Mercy Leonard on the 1830 Census. Her maiden name was Sweatland and she married first to Jared Green. She was the widow of Amos Leonard who was born in Mass. Mar 15, 1748, son of Andrew & Dorothy Leonard. She married Amos in Granby, Mass., on Oct. 17, 1788. His pension is on file for more details. They had at least two children, Mercy and Orrin Leonard. In 1820 they lived in Paris, Oneida, NY, and they had 7 people in the home. Amos and Mercy plus 3 males age 16-25, 1 female age 16-25, and another female age 26-44. Amos Leonard of Cortlandville was also a son.

Solon was formed from Homer in 1798. When Cortland County was established in 1808, it consisted of the townships of Virgil, Cincinnatus, Homer, Solon, and the southern half of Tully and Fabius. Cincinnatus was formed from Solon in 1804. In 1818, Cincinnatus was divided to form Freetown, Willett, and Marathon. A portion of Solon was annexed to Truxton in 1811. Taylor was formed from Solon in 1849 and included Taylorville and Union Valley within its boundaries.
