Biography

Parthenia Stanton was born July 27, 1798, in Bristol, Ontario County, New York. She married Bradford Shirley before 1822 and she was an heir to her father’s estate in 1838, an heir to the estate of Hannah Stanton of Moravia in 1853, and an heir to Joseph Stanton’s estate in 1861.

Parthenia died at the age of 81 in Lisle, Broome County, New York, in November of 1879. The cause of death was "dropsy", the old-fashioned term for edema, "a condition characterized by an excess of watery fluid collecting in the cavities or tissues of the body".

Her father's 1837 will mentions "dau Betsey Sherley", which may actually refer to his granddaughter, Betsey, daughter of Bradord and Parthenia. Or perhaps Parhenia's full name was Elizabeth Parthenia Stanton or Parthenia Elizabeth Stanton.

Children

Parthenia Stanton & Bradford D. Shirley were the parents of my ancestor,
