Amos was born Sept. 25, 1796, at Paris, Oneida, New York. He was a son of Amos Leonard (1748-1825) who was a soldier of the Revolution and Mercy (Sweatland) Green Leonard. His father's pension was filed in Oneida abt. 1820 and the family moved to Solon soon after. Amos (the father) died there in 1825. Mercy, and two other children (Mercy and counted on the census in Solon 1830.]

McGrawville (McGraw), South Cortland, Blodgett Mills, and Munsons Corners, are all part of Cortlandville and the City of Cortland, the County Seat, is located in the center.
